Joann Calise, APRN, BC

I am an Advanced Practice Nurse with a master’s degree in nursing from University of Rhode Island. Nursing has taught me to view patients in a holistic approach, focusing on the bio/psychological and social needs. My main areas of focus are individual therapy with adults who suffer from Depression, Anxiety, Mood Disorder, Trauma, PTSD, dealing with Life Transitions, Parenting, relationship issues, Stress Management, and Grief and Loss. I have worked in psychiatry for 45 years and have extensive experience working in emergency, in patient and partial hospital settings at Butler Hospital. In addition, I have prescribed medication on an outpatient basis for several years.

My passion has always been providing therapy, and my clinical orientation is vast. I utilize a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Interpersonal therapy and psychoanalytic approaches. I believe in meeting patients where they are at, and setting realistic goals to meet their needs.

In my years of practice, I have worked with multiple diagnoses, and can assess/make referrals when I believe meds may be needed. Seeking therapy is not always easy, and takes courage, but can make an impact in changing one’s life. Believing in ourselves is paramount, and can make a difference in how we approach life and relationships. We can be victims or choose to be victorious. Therapy is the tool that provides the means and gives hope. Congratulations on reaching out, let’s begin your journey together!
