Individual Counseling, Individual Therapy, Psychotherapy – different names for therapies with the same goal: to work with people one-on-one to help them help themselves. With each session, the hope is to discover, then reduce or eliminate, whatever it is that might be causing a patient emotional pain, anxiety, sorrow, or other distress or suffering.
Our goal is not to judge our patients, but to relieve their distress in the short term, and then guide them toward long-term solutions. Together, we will question irrational beliefs and allow time for self-discovery – which, in turn, leads to a person’s being able to make healthier decisions.
Modern counseling is a process. It requires us to listen to you and then help with suggestions, education, and an appropriate treatment plan aimed at identifying your goals and getting to the root of why you felt you needed counseling in the first place.
We will help you advocate for yourself. We will be there with you every step of the way. Once you decide you are ready to make changes, you will never be alone again.
There are many different ways to define psychotherapy and many different ways to treat issues, but one thing is sure: no matter what the issues are, we can help. And, whether you realize it or not, you have already taken the first step: you are reading this.
