I believe that therapy is a process that requires a safe space to explore different ways of thinking, to gain insight into presenting problems and learning strategies to help gain control of choices and behavior. I believe this is done through learning strategies to better manage emotions, to communicate more effectively and reduce distress around psychosocial stressors. I have been a licensed mental health clinician in Rhode Island since 2013 and use techniques from CBT, solution focused, family systems, and other modalities to support clients in achieving goals. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is both valuable and essential in making change.

People seek therapy to better understand themselves, gain skills, feel heard without judgement, to work through trauma, and to learn alternative strategies to reduce symptoms impacting their school, occupational, social and emotional functioning. I am honest and direct, as well as, empathetic, while encouraging and focused on supporting client toward making sustainable changes. It is important to consider techniques and skills that are functional and achievable for each individual client. I have the knowledge and experience in working with clients to help them to identify their own needs and patterns of behavior. Once this is achieved the client is able to gain self-awareness, perspective, and make alternative choices that better serve personal goals. I believe that therapy is most effective when enhancing strong and healthy relationships and community supports, increasing coping and problem-solving skills, and when the client obtains the knowledge to make choices and decisions that better their quality of life.
